Not every disc needs to be competition equipment. Recreational flying discs are the ones you keep in the car, throw with people who have never tried, and lose to a hedge without it ruining the afternoon.

At 27 cm across in soft PE plastic, these discs are light enough for a child to throw and gentle enough to catch with cold hands. They forgive a bad release, they do not hurt when they land on someone, and they cost little enough that losing one is an inconvenience rather than a loss.
The trade-off against a 175 g competition disc is wind. A light disc wanders when the air moves, which is fine on a still evening in a park and frustrating on an exposed beach.
Choosing a flying disc for children and beginners

When to move up to a heavier disc
